The X1 Crosses the Atlantic — Lemans Coupes Brings the Hyper Racer to the UK
When West Sussex-based specialist car dealer Oliver Hulme first encountered the X1, he saw something that the UK club racing market was missing. He's been right about that.
The UK club racing market is one of the most competitive and sophisticated in the world. Caterham, Radical, the various Lotus-based categories, and a deep tradition of formula racing at circuits from Silverstone to Oulton Park have produced a buyer who is hard to impress. The Hyper Racer X1 impressed them anyway.
Oliver Hulme runs Lemans Coupes in West Sussex — a specialist business focused primarily on GT40 replicas and classic sports car recreations. Not an obvious home for an Australian-built formula car. But Hulme recognised something in the X1 that he hadn't seen in anything at its price point in the UK market.
The gap the X1 fills in Britain is real. Radical SR3 territory starts at significantly higher cost. Caterham's most serious machinery lacks the ground-effect aerodynamics that make the X1 genuinely compelling at speed. Formula Ford requires crack-testing after every race meeting.
The X1's UK presence is still developing. But its arrival in Britain is part of a pattern: the car keeps finding markets where the gap it was designed to fill also exists.
