CROOKE WINS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Dean Crooke has won the 2008 Victorian Club 125 Max Light Championship,
after the most controversial race season in the clubs history.

Crooke totally dominated the 8 round Vic season, winning 16 of the 23 heat races he contested
at Phillip Island, Winton and Calder. With sixteen wins, four 2nds and a 3rd, he finished in the top 3 no less than 21 times. His two non-podium finishes were a 4th and 5th. His kart preparation was such that he had zero DNF's.
At 23, Dean Crooke, who designed and builds the Hyper Racers, is an outstanding example of what can be achieved in motor racing despite seemingly impossible odds.

On his way to the Championship title, Crooke had to contend with the Victorian Club illegally taking his round 3 win away in direct contravention of the CAMS National Competition Rules and then, at the penultimate round at Calder, having his nearest competitor allowed back into points contention by allowing the driver back into parc femme to be re-weighed, after he had been found to be under weight and had left parc ferme. Finally in a last minute drama, the club ignored their own club rules regarding tied finishes and gave his nearest rival the nod for 2nd place in the round when, under the club rules, Crooke had in fact finished second. Despite the setbacks and despite Crooke missing round 5 due to other racing commitments, Crooke just smiled and went about the business of winning races.
Peter Gazzola finished 2nd in the title and Russ Occhipinti 3rd.

Hyper driver Chris Jewell finished 3rd in the heavy division title fight behind Rod Clark and Brendan Luneman.

Crookes toughest opponent, Russ Occhipinti, finished off the year on a high note by winning the final round.
As two of the fastest but cleanest drivers around, the Crooke / Occhipinti battles have thrilled spectators all year.
