MALLALA
Britek Motorsport’s General Manager, Chris Jewell, enjoyed a successful first foray into Rotax Max Super-Karting at South Australia’s Mallala Motorsport Park during the weekend of October 12-14.
Armed with the newest Hypermax Racer to come from the workshops of Jon and Dean Crooke, Jewell and his Agent Orange machine finished the weekend in 14th place overall out of a field of 22 Heavy entrants and was delighted to claim 10th outright in Sunday’s final 8-lap event.
“The guys at work hounded me to get into the Rotax class and I’m wrapt I did, I had an absolute ball throughout and was delighted to complete over 75 laps of practice, qualifying and racing in as good as perfect conditions.
“I felt a tad green going into the weekend, having not driven a kart in almost twenty years and with limited running at a wet Winton test day I was just happy not to be last. Fellow Hyper racers Patrick Atherton and John Bartlett and I had a couple of enjoyable battles on Sunday and that alone blew away the cobwebs.
“We had three Britekonians at Mallala and I ended up claiming my first Britek Cup on debut and the whole atmosphere of Rotax Max racing is brilliant…I didn’t once even think about our previous weekend’s oh-so-close Bathurst effort. The competitors we met were all extremely helpful and it was great to do some recreational and therapeutic motor sport without having to worry about anything other than myself and kart.
“The Hyper didn’t miss a beat all weekend and I can’t wait to get back into it, although with the late-season V8 Supercar schedule the way it is I may not be able to do much more than get some miles in at either Calder or Winton. If possible I’d like to do the whole Victorian Series in 2008, and there are a few more guys at work who are keen to join the fray which will make it even more fun.”
“Roll on 2008”.

Bloody Hell - who put THAT ripple strip there.
