WICKS WINS 2007 VICTORIAN SKC CHAMPIONSHIP.

PHILLIP ISLAND

Mark Wicks has won the 2007 Victorian 125 NGB Heavy Division VSKC Championship.

Driving his Hyper MAX Racer, Wicks has won the 2007 VSKC 125 NGB Heavy Division Championship with a final round, 3 from 3, clean sweep at the ultra fast Phillip Island circuit.

Wicks was the dominate driver in the 5 Round Series with 3 round wins and a second, and the Phillip Island Heavy Division Lap Record of 1.59.5342.

Rounds 1, 2, 3 and 5 were run at Phillip Island and Round 4 at Calder.

Apart from the 4th round at Calder, where he finished second, Wicks was far and away the dominate driver of the season, with 11 heat wins from 16 races, often driving away from his 180 kilo opposition by half the length of the Phillip Island main straight and catching and mixing it with the leaders of the 160 kilo division.

The performance of Mark Wicks and the sensational Hyper MAX Racer and Sean Whitfield's National Championship win, earlier in the month, in the Jnr Division, has capped off a great year for the Hyper MAX Racer team.

Hyper team driver, Sean Whitfield, fresh from his National Title win, had a sensational day at the Island, shattering the old Junior lap record by over 1 second (2.02.9901) and winning all 3 heats by a country mile. This quiet achiever just goes out and does the business in the most professional way. A real star in the making.

In the Light division Daniel Bey, Dean Crooke, Brad Stebbing, Peter Gazzolla and Nathan Bey had a great day of racing.
In the closest racing of the year and with the drivers sometimes five abreast down the straight, Daniel took the overall win on the day by a 'flies foreskin' from Dean, with Brad rounding out the top 3.

Dean has spent most of the Rounds this year developing and testing new design features for the Mark 2 Hyper and was very excited with the results of the day's testing and is looking forward to debuting the finished product next year.

Brad was back on track with set-up and very happy with his Hyper's performance.

Biggest moment of the day ..........

On the first lap of the final heat, as Wicksy crested Lukey Height and was about to brake for the sharp right hander at the bottom of the hill, he was nailed by an out of control Craig Taylor, did a complete 360, was passed by his main rival Rod Clarke, gathered it up Danny Sullivan style and within half a lap was back in the lead.

The only downer on the day was the partial failure of the timing system resulting in the final heat's grid order being left to the drivers. It was disappointing to see some driver/s moving further up the grid than they should have. For some people it doesn't matter how you win....................
